About the artist:

From a young age, I was immersed in art through the influences of my extended family.  Growing up, I learned to draw from her artistic grandfather. She experienced making floral designs and arrangements from her grandparents’ flower store, and was exposed to the beauty of the colorful and graphic influences from her father’s hometown in South Africa. Understanding color and the relationships between them was and continues to be a natural gift for me. I currently paint with a technique called acrylic pouring. Beginning by visualizing the colors I think would work well together, I then get the idea of how I want the colors to appear on the canvas. I create most of the fluid colors in my palette. Some are created thicker than others so I can manipulate the texture. Then I start the process of layering each color directly onto canvas. The movement and mixing of each color will create a final image that can never be duplicated. My interest in texture on the canvas has extended into my most recent works of textured dots. These dots create different depths and perspectives within each piece, depending on the distance each viewer is from the painting.

Connecticut based contemporary artist Ashton Lally focuses on the manipulation of oil and acrylic colors and texture in each of her paintings. She believes in creating images that transcend the viewer into a place of peace and beauty, allowing one to see each piece with their own interpretation.

Lally has had an innate understanding of color since childhood.. After studying art in high school, Lally went on to obtain her BA in Studio Arts from Trinity College in Connecticut and took art classes and art restoration when she lived in Florence, Italy. After graduating in 2008, she became a Buyer for Anthroplogie for six years in Philadelphia, PA, working on purchasing and designing knits, sweaters, handbags, tech items, belts and travel assortments. After Philadelphia, she moved to Boston, MA for two years with her husband and became a Buyer for J.Jill where she was in charge of their Pure Jill department. She has now settled down in Avon, CT with her husband, two sons, bichon/yorkie and Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs.

Ashton is currently on the board of the West Hartford Art League and sells her art through her website, local stores and boutiques, and in accepted exhibitions.
