About the artist:
Ioana is a visual artist and independent curator based in The Netherlands. She has been exposed to art and culture at a young age, enrolling for the first 10 years in a special school where all the students were either playing an instrument or were taking art classes, preparing for a study in the artistic field. Nevertheless she chose to become a scientist.
She started to photograph in her twenties and developed her own view on the world. Her photographic work addresses a rather wide range of topics, including long-term documentary series that will continue as a photographic research meant to be her graduation project at the Photo Academy of Amsterdam. Along with that she loves working with portraiture and fine art, still lives with a twist and experimental photography. She is fascinated by the paintings of the Dutch Old Masters, by the Japanese photography and by early 20th century art movements and uses these often for inspiration.
Along with being an autonomous photographer Ioana is also curating, using her vision on a progressive way of curating photography to connect the dots between art and the strong message that the visual material can convey.
She participated in several group exhibitions in The Netherlands (Rotterdam) and abroad: Germany (BBA Gallery, Berlin) - UK (Gallery at Home, Wales) - US (Foley Gallery, New York) – Italy (MADS Art Gallery, Milan) - Australia (Laurent Gallery, Melbourne) - France (Paris Photo Off, Galerie Joseph) - UK (The London Photo Show, Bargehouse Gallery) and India (Indian Photo Festival, State Art Gallery Hyderabad).
