Magdalena Rojas turns materials into the main characters of her paintings and sculptures. Frequently coming from an organic origin (paper, porcelain, wax, glycerin, wood), each material is, at first, a presence that provokes the artist, from the attachment to the struggle, leading her to knead, fold or cut a "body" which seems to be alive. From this exchange, in the end, the subtle traces of the handmade can be seen in any of her pieces. Geometry always guides the process. It acts as a measure and a means of exploration in the steps that follow each other in the making of a work. The results usually refer to a point of conciliation between opposites, between the organic and the geometric, but also between the opaque and the shiny, the flat and the volumetric illusion, for example. Rojas thus responds to the need to make visible a dual character in the world we inhabit and our constant search for balance in it.
