The doing part of my work is more playful and intuitive. As opposed to my propensity to overanalyze, my appreciation for diverse ideologies like Wabi-Sabi, Sufism and Art Brute embrace my abstract ideas and encourage me to under-work my pieces to achieve an unfinished aesthetic. I use mixed media including acrylic paint, fine pens, water colours, oil crayons, pastels and charcoal. My pieces have personal meanings to me yet their ambiguous and raw appearance allows room for the viewer to interpret the work in their own way.

About the artist:

Rand obtained a BSc in Management with Marketing from Royal Holloway, University of London, then worked in advertising until she found herself delving deep into the arts.  She completed a sight-size drawing course at The Florence Art Studio in Florence, Italy, then obtained a Graduate Diploma in Art & Design with a specialism in Fine Arts from the Royal College of Art, London, UK.  Rand has been selling her work online through her Instagram page @Rawthentic.art since 2018. Her open-minded approach can be due to her roots as a Jordanian woman raised in Amman, Brussels and London. She perceives herself as being too westernized for the Middle East yet an alien to the West. Today, she aspires to continue to explore her identity and key themes and stories that are vital to her personal growth through her practice.
