Sarah Schönbeck

About the artist:

Born in 1979 in Copenhagen.

Lives and works in Odder, Denmark.

Sarah Schönbeck is a visual artist who creates sculptural objects. She has a master's degree in cultural anthropology from University of Copenhagen and has studied art at Johan Borup Art College and Aarhus Art Academy.

Sarah experiments with light and reflections in her work. She uses mirrors, sandpaper, varnish, and ink to create materials with nuances and depth. Her artwork both absorbs and projects itself onto the viewer and the surrounding space.

About working with mirror as material she says:

“I am fascinated with art that makes room for the viewer to put their own reality into the artwork. I love working with mirror as material because of the great impact the viewer and the surrounding space have on the artwork itself. It creates a form of interaction and dependency that I find beautiful.

I am also attracted to the sensuality and aesthetics of mirrors. The material has a strong visual statement and it has an interesting play with light.”

The material provides a perfect base for Sarah Schönbeck´s work as she continues to explore the qualities and possibilities that lie within.
