I paint, create, reflect, and express myself aesthetically – not just as an artist but as a human being – in order to achieve an inner calm and peace. To me, reaching that state of flow is my way of achieving existence in the world on my terms, helping me understand it while i learn, evolve, expand and grow as a human. Every person have there own reality and ways to engage with the world around us. Art is me free space and my state of flow is where i can `let go`and remove any pretense, worries, and feel that iam enough. The art is where i get to be Gemma, processing everything around me, and where the only judge is what is happening between me and the canvas.
My name is Gemma Louise Luther-Lewis. I am 34 years old and live in a small town in northern Denmark, where I grew up and now reside with my family. Our home also houses my little studio, a space that immediately reflects my creative universe as you step inside. It’s a vibrant home filled with colourful everyday life, two lively boys, joyous chaos, and a magical corner where time and place sometimes fade away, allowing immersion in creative flow and practical tasks to take centre stage.
I have a bachelor’s degree in social education, and my educational background informs my artistic and aesthetic work. My interests, deeply rooted in my personality, shape how I interact with others—both professionally and personally. I am immensely curious about people, their interactions, and the ways we communicate and share experiences, for example, through a piece of art.
In recent years, I’ve encountered and reflected on many facets of life, leading me into a process of self-realization where I seek meaning, purpose, and balance. The aesthetic world often serves as my guide in this journey. Art allows me to weave together the impressions of the world in a way that challenges, calms, and sparks curiosity. Art is for me a way to tell a story that I can’t tell verbally. Art is my therapy. Art is my escape, and art is where I can possible, find answers to a few of life’s many questions.
I find joy and curiosity when someone asks me what I paint and what it represents. I always return the question, asking them what they see. This exchange often creates a shared moment where one person tells a story and another listens. Through this interaction, learning, trust, and new questions arise, inviting further exploration. It’s in these moments that the magic of human connection takes form, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of others, my art, and ultimately myself.
My aesthetic expressions are a way to capture moments of life, my own curiosity, and wonder. My art is not meant to be absolute; it invites multiple interpretations, which is, for me, its essence. I hope that my art evokes something magical and emotional in those who experience it.
I welcome you into my world and invite you to explore my interpretation of life through the works of By-Gemlewis.
